The Jewellery Store Azevedo is settled in a central area of the city, with great urban and architectural value, subject to protective regulations.
Despite the fact that the building has little architectural or patrimonial value, it is part of an urban set of great interest for the city.
The project considered this, both in the choice of the materials and in the proposal of a contemporary language capable to continue the logic of the building's context.
The building in question is articulated in three floors with the main access at the lower level, on the main street (5 de Outubro Street). A second access, less important, on the third floor, has about seven meters difference from the previous one. This access at the higher level, although conditioned by topographical features, allows a functional flexibility that offers future alternatives.
Generally, the project wants to oppose the abandonment, in commercial terms, of the area at upper level, and to retake that access to give another meaning to this part of the urban fabric, which has a limited accessibility due to the morphology of the road.
In functional terms, the project keeps the three existing floors, favouring a bigger permeability by mean of the space pattern, aiming at emphasizing the unitary character of the building, anticipating its total use.
